The Federation of Women Lawyers in Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) has disowned a statement circulating online linking former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to the alleged killing of a university student, saying it is fake.
The falsified statement calls for the immediate opening of a criminal investigation into the alleged murder of Regina Wairimu, with Gachagua as a person of interest.
“Please be advised that the statement circulating was not issued by FIDA-Kenya,” the organisation said in a notice on X.
The fake statement claims to have been sparked by the seriousness of allegations now in the public domain.

It references remarks allegedly made by President William Ruto and accusations by Martha Miano, a former aide to Gachagua.
Their comments are said to link the former deputy president to the alleged impregnation and subsequent death of Wairimu.
The fake statement goes on to urge the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and the National Police Service to initiate an investigation, provide witness protection and keep the public informed of progress.
It also appeals directly to Gachagua, stating he should not politicise the matter and instead cooperate with investigators.
Wairimu was reportedly pregnant at the time of her death on February 12, 2023, and a post-mortem indicated that she died from multiple lesions on her uterus that caused severe blood loss.
Subsequent investigations implicated 10 suspects in an alleged botched abortion procedure.
FIDA-Kenya’s disavowal underscores that the group had no involvement in drafting or issuing the statement, raising questions about the source behind the fake document.
“We urge the public to disregard it and remain vigilant against impersonation and misuse of our name,” FIDA-Kenya’s notice emphasised.
